Second Only to Grant: Quartermaster General Montgomery C. Meigs
Published in Hardcover by White Mane Publishing Co. (January, 2001)
Author: David W. Miller
Average review score:

The Life and Times of General Montgomery C. Meigs
David Miller deserves a great deal of credit for bringing
General Montgomery Meigs to life. Through his incredibly detailed work, the life and times of this gifted builder,
architect and general become chrystallized in the reader's mind.
The number of personal letters included in this volume are nothing short of remarkable. The inclusion of so many portions of personal letters from the mid-1800s allows the reader to share directly the thought processes of Meigs, his supporters and his detractors. The copious footnotes are outstanding as well. Not to mention the great photos.
In a sense, this is a textbook as well as a biographical work.
I am very impressed. Thank you,!!!
Signed, A distant relative of the Quartermaster General

Long overdue
This is an excellent biography of one of the most important -- although most overlooked and underrated -- members of the Union high command in the Civil War. Montgomery Meigs was, quite literally, second only to U. S. Grant in importance, in that he was the genius who kept the supplies moving up front. He also had outstanding pre- and post-war careers as engineer-architect. A most amazing (though not particularly attractive) man, whose life and works are splendidly described in a well-written, fascinating book. Civil War buffs owe Miller many thanks.

Selling to Newly Emerging Markets
Published in Unknown Binding by Quorum Books (E) (April, 1998)
Authors: Leslie O'Dell and Russell R. Miller
Average review score:

An outstanding resource for new exporters to NEM's.
This is a book written by a highly experienced international marketer who truly understands the characteristic of the newly independent states of the Soviet Union and other developing Eastern European countries. It clearly instructs readers how to how to build sucessful sales networks and create lasting local business relationships. Our consulting staff refers to this book often when putting together marketing programs for clients who want to penetrate BEM's as quickly and profitably as possible. John R. Jagoe, Director, Export Institute.

Informative, Interesting, and Practical!
As the Director of Training Development for an American based international company, I found this book to be extremely informative, very practical, as well as an interesting read. An unusal combination to find in business books. Miller obviously knows his subject and is able to convey his valuable information in a very readable manner.

Favorite Childhood Book
I loved this book as a child and still have the gift to read and share with my own children. Every story is very charming and extremely fun to read. My favorite is The Diamond D and the Dreadful Dragon!! Those of you who have had the pleasure of reading this particular story, and have a wry sense of humor fully understands why. This book is a classic and a "must have for all children."

The Seseame Street Storybook
What a wonderful book! Full of emotions, life lessons and fun familiar friends. The story of the Princess and the teeny tiny cookie has stayed with me all my life and I have so enjoyed sharing it with my own daughter.

Sex Is Not a Four-Letter Word!: Talking Sex With Your Children Made Easier
Published in Paperback by Crossroad/Herder & Herder (January, 1995)
Authors: Patricia Martens Miller and Patricia F. Miller
Average review score:

great reference for parents
If you disreguard the title this is a great reference book for parents of all ages and religious beliefs. I taught "Being An Askable Parent" courses for schools and recommended this book as a good "what should I say when" book. The answers and attitudes presented are healthy and honest for any parent to consider. The author bases her advise on Christian beliefs, but I think any parent of any belief could benefit. This book is far more believable and real than some of the other sexuality reference books written under SIECUS authors

This is real!
Don't let the "religion" in the description to make you think this is a unrealistic or conservative book for only right wingers! This book is real, concrete, and helpful to everyone. I'm a sexuality educator, parent, and author....this book is a fine example of genuine help for a parent of a child who will grow into an adolescent!

Sex, Violence, and Schizophrenia
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (October, 2002)
Author: B. W. Miller
Average review score:

Great Guy, Great BooK!!!
This book shows, very well, what it's like to have schizophrenia. He was very brave. I know the guy and he's a good person and very funny. I'm just glad he did not shoot himself, because I may have in the same situation! I would have never know what he went through by knowing him, but after reading this I have a new respect for him. This book is easy to read and follow. The book is terrifying at times and funny at other times. He shows what it was like to walk in his shoes through that period of time. It's very detailed. You will really enjoy reading this book. Buy it now.

Come inside his mind.....
This book amazed me! I have known the author for several years and knew him during this time he writes of. He writes about the confusion, the voices, the strange ideas and paranoia with startling clarity and honesty. As he says in his own words, this book is not so much about how he lived and coped with his schizophrenia, it's a glimpse into the mind of the schizophrenic personality. I think this book would be great for psych students or just for help in understanding someone you may know who has been diagnosed with this disease. It won't tell you how to deal with them, but it will give you an open window into where they are..just know that it will be stranger than anything you can imagine!

The Shop Teacher
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Minerva Press (January, 2000)
Author: K E Miller
Average review score:

A Small Wonder
While the size of the book may be small, the message it sends could not be louder. Ms.Miller tells of a young, clumsy high school student who finds self-confidence in the kindness of her shop teacher, Mr. Brown. The story gives hope to young children, and sends the message that with work they can achieve almost anything.I recommend the book to children from ages 8-12.

Thoughtful and Well-written: The Shop Teacher
"The Shop Teacher" by K.E. Miller is a beautiful book. It is the story of a teacher who helps a child to believe in herself. I would recommend this book to ages 7 and up, and a lovely aspect of the book is that it is small like "Harold and the Purple Crayon." The kids I know love the book because it's small and cute and portable, and it just becomes the favorite bedtime safety book of the children I babysit. The author also does not seem concerned with dumbing down the book for children. It is just a descriptive, folksy gem.

The Shy Person's Guide to a Happier Love Life
Published in Paperback by Times Books (November, 1979)
Author: Eric and Miller, Judi Weber
Average review score:

Greatest pep-talk ever!
This is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best self-help books ever. The message is clear that the reader must not only listen to what the book says, but then must go out and actually implement the tactics in everyday life. And that's the problem with most self-help books. They aren't that persuassive.

Well, this one is. Mr. Weber convinced me so rapidly of trying to change my normal routine and break out of 'who I was' I can't thank him enough. Like the other reviewer of this book, I wasn't scared to change, and this book was one of a few that confronted the problem. Therefore, it seems to me that Mr. Weber has taken his time to dig deep in the psychology of shy people. As one myself, let me tell you he hits the nail right on top of the head.

The only book I have found to be of any help
The biggest problem with most personal advice books is that they tell you to just ignore your problems - if you're afraid of something, just don't care, go out and do it. This kind of approach doesn't always scare me off more, but it's definitely not encouraging either.

At the first glance, one could say that this is just what the authors are doing in this book. The message of the book is very clear from the beginning - go out and do it. On the other hand, however, this book is incredibly motivating. I really can't tell you how they do it, but the more I read the book, the more I started to feel the readiness to go into situations that would normally have scared the hell out of me. I noticed a significant attitude change in a few days.

It's still much less than what I would need, but at least it's some kind of a beginning. Though this book doesn't contain a final solution to your shyness, it's the only book I've seen that has been of any kind of help at all. I advise every shy person to try this book first. Maybe you're also interested to know that several other books by Eric Weber I have seen (including the don't-know-why famous How to Pick Up Girls) are quite useless, failing to deliver what is promised.

The Silicon Valley Edge: A Habitat for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Published in Hardcover by Stanford Univ Pr (November, 1900)
Authors: Chong-Moon Lee, William F. Miller, Marguerite Gong Hancock, and Henry S. Rowen
Average review score:

Excellent guidebook to Silicon Valley
This is an excellent book to describe all thinkable crosssections of Silicon Valley through interviews in the social science methods and through writing by prominent figures in Silicon Valley. The only drawback I found is that the book has too rich contents for a reader to read through casually. I strongly recommend this book to those serious readers who are engaged in Silicon Valley, associated with venture businesses, interested in mechanisms and histories of Silicon Valley, or interested in business models.
The book has a big reference table to illustrate how different Silicon Valley entrepreneurs are from small business owners and traditional entrepreneurs, and describes four distinct types of entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. The book also enumerates ten reasons why Silicon Valley has been prosperous.
This is really a good book for a reader to learn what Silicon Valley is like.

A Fantastic Book with Intensive Stuffs
Practically useful for entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and professionals.

Sol Lewitt: 25 Years of Wall Drawings, 1968-93
Published in Paperback by Addison Gallery of American Art (January, 1994)
Authors: Jock Reynolds, Andrea Miller-Keller, Andrea M. Keller, and Allison Kemmerer
Average review score:

An amazing book!
Artist Sol LeWitt's wall drawings are shown in two parts in this book- how they are executed, and the final product. LeWitt's career also includes working for architect I.M. Pei, and coining the term "conceptualism". The book is designed perfectly, and the only drawback is there are no pictures of the artist, or any interviews.

the definitive work on lewitt wall drawings!
Exquisite photographs and an exemplary text that covers the history of Sol Lewitt's wall drawings in depth. This will be a classic.
